Having served in higher education the past three years, I have grown in my appreciation for the complexities of colleges and universities. Specifically, I am fascinated by how institutions value diversity within their student population and among their employees. Over the past two years colleges and universities have had to confront their racist past to understand their student population. Christian higher education has not been immune to this soul searching. Christian institutions must recognize diversity as a biblical and institutional imperative to embrace institutional inclusive excellence. Diversity needs to be embraced for institutions to survive in a pluralistic and changing society. As higher education faces a tumultuous future, there is a heightened need for diverse administrators who can navigate and effectively lead institutions towards inclusive excellence. Currently, I work as the Coordinator of Multicultural Recruitment at Messiah College. I oversee the recruitment of s tudents from Harrisburg, Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, and Washington DC. My positon also serves as the director of the Lloyd and Lois Martin Multicultural Scholarship and Amigo Scholarship. These scholarships were started to help Messiah recruit and retain students of color. Newland Archer, a well respected lawyer of New York looks across from his box seat to see his newly engaged fiancà ©e May Welland. Sitting next to her, he sees May’s mother and aunt. There’s a saying in the Philippines that goes, kids who grew old making a living.   It is a very accurate way of describing them.   Aged 5 to 17, stunted in height, looking twice as old as their years, some handling machines 50 times their weight that could crush them, many hidden behind fifteen-foot factory walls with armed guards, some locked up in cubicles of prostitution dens, some of the workers as young as four years old, and numbering to more than 3.7 million in this small country alone (Arroyo, 1999, 1).   Child labor is a daunting reality that countries from the third world are trying to eradicate. The average daily salary in a third world country is only $5 (Arroyo, 1999, 1). The worldwide shrimp industry is estimated at $13 billion annually (CNN, 2008). Despite of all these labor rights violations, which included child labor, human trafficking, sexual assault, and others, the owner of these companies were only charged with hiring children under 15, and failing to provide holidays and day off. His fine was only about $2,100 and has continued operations since then. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) defines child labor as, employing children below 15 years old in factories and industries where they are not directly under the supervision of their parents (Arroyo, 1999, 1).   The situation only becomes more intricate in these countries because it is the parents themselves who force their children into working, occasionally even acting as employers of these child workers (Arroyo, 1999, 1). Conclusion Child labor, forced labor, withholding of employees’ wages and benefits, prostitution, and other forms of workers’ abuse can be traced to poverty.   Societies with more poverty-stricken population manifested more of these types of problems (Arroyo, 1999, 1).  Ã‚   Thus, it can be regarded primarily as an economic problem more than anything else. The main things I use my computer for are gaming, running server applications like web and file servers and doing a lot of virtualization, which is running several operating systems inside of the main operating system. I have a really big monitor so I can keep track of a lot of things at once. It is 24 inches and it allows me to have several applications open at the same time. For instance, I often have both a web browser and a word processor open when I am doing research so I can research and type at the same time; this is very handy. Another one of the most important parts of a computer for me is the RAM. Most people don't really need a lot of RAM. However, it you start doing a lot of multitasking like I do with several things running at once, you will find that if you don't have enough RAM it can really bog down your computer. This is because your operating system will try to use your hard drive and your hard drive is a lot slower than the RAM. The video card is another important component. I have a very nice GTX280 which is great for playing all the new high-end games. The next very important thing is the processor. Without a fast processor, all your other components will run slowly. I have a quad core processor and it is very fast and lets me do all of the multitasking that I want to. Student 2 - Brittany (Grade 12 High School Student) Hi, I'm Brittany. Her experience with Carstairs Jones was a mixed blessing that she was not able to overcome and, in light of how her life turned out, was a foreshadowing of things to come. Throughout the monologue, the narrator drops hints about how her "normal" past turned out. The many lovers she’d had – three marriages and as many abortions. Each time she was seeking out to gain an upper hand in life and social status. Once, she writes, "I was raped by someone to whom I was married." In the 1990s a new idea spread through the criminal justice field concerning the influence of a person's social environment on crime rates. The idea was that general disorder in the neighborhood leads to increased antisocial behavior and eventually to serious crime. For most of the twentieth century, police primarily reacted to serious crimes such as rape, murder, and robbery often with little overall success in curbing crime rates. So, the thinking went, if authorities eliminated disorder, then serious crimes would drop. Disorder creates fear among citizens of unsafe streets; they avoid public areas allowing criminals to gain a foothold. The neighborhood goes into a downward spiral because as crime increases, then disorder increases further. Another theory from 1930s criminologists was that unemployment could be a major cause of crime. Society teaches that persistence and hard work lead to personal financial rewards; however, educational opportunities are often limited to those who can afford to attend college. People who do not receive higher education or college degrees are often forced to take lower paying jobs. Some attempt to achieve material success through illegal means; in this sense social forces can lead a person into crime. The belief that education plays an enormous role in deterring crime led to educational programs and job training in prisons. Education and job training not only provide a way to find a job and make a legal living, but potentially places the person into a better social environment once he or she is back in society. Criminologists believe a good job creates social and personal attachments to a person's community that in turn influence whether or not to commit a crime. A person is less likely to commit a crime, even if there will be substantial rewards, if he or she is tied to the community and is respected by its members.

The art piece is approximately 6 feet tall and 5.5 feet wide. The tallness of the object gives a sense of intimidation since the majority of art pieces at the Dallas Art Museum weren?t as big. When trying to find out the depth of the object I used my shoe as a measuring tool. I came to the conclusion that the art piece was about a foot and a half in depth. When examining the texture of the piece of art I instantly realized that the material used wasn?t a fine form of differently covered wood. Instead it consisted of cheap colored laminates. The first design element I will be focusing on is color. Sottass did an amazing job at using the abstract colors that offers a sensory experience which the physical world doesn?t offer. This abstract object gave me a very dramatic feel that became overwhelming if looked at too long. Although it became overwhelming I thoroughly stilled enjoyed the colors used. The piece could easily fit in well with a house that has many abstract colors paired together. When comparing this art with the outside world and the colors involved in the physical realm I realized that grasping the opportunity of using abstract colors can be very difficult. This thought allowed me to better understand why she decided to choose cheap colored laminates. When I had a sense of being overwhelmed the light blue and dark blue used gave a calming effect which I deeply appreciated. After going into detail about the element of color I will begin to explain the uses that this artwork offers. Sottsass?s bookcase is about ideas. It is paradoxical. She uses cheap industrial materials combined with vivid color (red, green), and ornament (the speckled base) to create an object that is about both the banality and the excitement of the mass popular culture environment of the shopping mall and the Las Vegas strip.
